The Waterton Biosphere Reserve Association (WBRA) is dedicated to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of resources in the Waterton Biosphere Region.

Established in the early 1980s, the WBRA has worked closely with local people to integrate conservation values with traditional livelihoods. We are a member of the Canadian Biosphere Reserve Association (CBRA), along with 18 other biosphere reserves in Canada.

To learn more about our guiding principles and how the WBRA aims to achieve our goals, please peruse the WBR’s Cooperation Plan 2023-2027. This document serves as a framework for the community-building work we do in the region.

WBR Vision

The Waterton Biosphere Region is a special place where people work together to support resilient landscapes and communities, where our cultural and natural diversities are valued.

WBR Mission

By working collaboratively, the Waterton Biosphere Region strives to achieve a balance between conserving biological diversity, promoting sustainable use of resources, and building the capacity of local residents, First Nations, and organizations to positively affect their communities and the environment.
