Executive & Finance Assistant

The Waterton Biosphere Reserve Association (WBRA) is looking for two people to support our organization and programs in southwestern Alberta.

The Conservation Technician will support various conservation initiatives including our Species at Risk and Supporting Landowners in Conservation and Stewardship programs. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with a background in conservation and agriculture, having strong field and communication skills, ability to work effectively with agricultural producers, landowners and partners, experience with GIS mapping, and flexibility to thrive in a dynamic work environment.  We are looking for that person who might enjoy discussing fencing projects with an agricultural producer, counting limber pine seedlings or bats, and engaging kids at youth education events – no two days are the same.

The Executive & Finance Assistant will provide administrative, financial, and organizational support to the Executive Director and board of directors. We are looking for an essential cog to help drive the office engine – that person who keeps files and records in order, manages meeting documentation and logistics, helps track grant income and expenses, coordinates payroll submissions, and so much more. If creating efficient, organized file structures or solving a formula problem in Excel bring satisfaction to your workday, this might be the role for you!

As our Communication Coordinator, you will work closely with the Executive Director, program managers, team members, and others to support implementation of the new WBR Communications Plan, including engaging with target audiences, building brand awareness and appreciation for what WBR is and what it does, and keeping communications fresh and current.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The WBRA  is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Administrative Assistant to join our team. The Administrative Assistant will provide support to the WBRA Executive Director, program staff, and board of directors. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative and organizational skills and be adaptable to change, as this is a new position and the role will evolve over time as backlogged tasks are completed and new tasks arise.

The technician will support implementation of Waterton Biosphere Reserve’s core functions and various conservation initiatives including the Carnivores and Communities (CACP), Species at Risk (SAR), and Supporting Landowners in Conservation and Stewardship (SLICS) programs. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with a background in conservation and agriculture, have excellent field and communication skills, be able to work effectively with local landowners and partners, and be flexible to thrive in a dynamic work environment.

The Waterton Biosphere Reserve Association (WBRA) is looking for a part-time contractor to support our Cooperation Plan implementation, conservation programs, and operation and administration functions. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with a background in conservation and agriculture, having strong research, organizational and communication skills and experience with GIS mapping. As this is a broad range of skills, we would consider hiring a second contractor specifically to address the GIS mapping requirements, so please apply even if you do not have the required GIS experience.

This position is located in the Waterton Biosphere Reserve area of Alberta and has a minimum of 15 hours per week on average (with possible maximum of 35 hours per week depending upon qualifications and funding). The initial contract will be 7 months (December to June) with the possibility of extension.

Candidate selection will begin on November 13, 2021.

In addition to passionately supporting the work of WBRA, the ideal candidate will have excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills as well as the ability to multi-task and work effectively within tight response times and simultaneously across multiple projects.
