Common Tansy – Tanacetum vulgare

DETAILS:   Invasive plants can be a serious threat to native ecosystems. Managing weeds is crucial, especially in the Crowsnest Pass where the railway, highway and Crowsnest River all act as a conduit for new infestations coming in from British Columbia.  In an effort to be more effective in managing these infestations, we’ll focus our weed pull efforts on one particular species – common tansy. Working together, we’ll remove this escaped garden plant from the sensitive riverbank systems on the property where chemical control is prohibited.

All tools and equipment will be provided, along with snack and drinks. We ask, however, that you please bring a lunch with you for the day. Additional information, including maps and driving directions, will be sent to you after you have registered for the event. Event will go rain or shine. Volunteers at the Blue Weed Blitz

TIME:   10 a.m.
LOCATION: M.D. of Pincher Creek (see details below)
EVENT ORGANIZER:  Pincher Creek Watershed Group

DETAILS:   This is an open invitation to all residents of the Town and M.D. of Pincher Creek to remove noxious and invasive weeds along our creek.

• Meet at Staging Area, for coffee and snacks on the Christie Mines Road
  (5429, Rg. Rd. 1–1) for further directions and map click here.
• No Dogs, Please!!
• For your comfort, bring your own bagged lunch, drinking water, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, sturdy shoes & lawn chairs.
• Meet back at the staging area at 4:30 for refreshments and fun; supper to follow.

This community event is organized by one of the partners in the Southwest Alberta Cooperative Weed Management Area (SWACWMA).

LOCATION: Meet on the Blakiston Fan in Waterton Lakes National Park
EVENT ORGANIZER: Waterton Lakes National Park

DETAILS:   Help keep Waterton Lakes National Park free of Spotted Knapweed !

Requirements:

• No experience necessary – just a willingness to help pick and bag knapweed
• Bring your appetite for a FREE BBQ lunch
• Does involve repetitive, light physical labour (bending over, picking up)
• Volunteer for a half-day shift (or longer!)

Volunteer duties:

• Pitch in and head off a stampede of billions of weed seeds by pulling Knapweed plants
• RSVP for lunch and FREE day-entry into Waterton Lakes National Park
